Many leaders excel in one or more of the above four domains, but only those who are masters of each AND are able to deploy their skills synchronously can really lay claim to being highly effective or Delta leaders. In similar vein, what separates the great triathlete from a merely competent triathlete is his or her combined mastery of the sport’s three constituent disciplines: swimming, cycling and running. It is not enough to be a great swimmer but a so-so cyclist or runner – a great triathlete must excel in all three disciplines to become a champion. Similarly, it is not enough for a leader to be visionary. He or she must also be able to influence others to realise the change vision, harnessing learning within the organisation to create the conditions in which long-lasting change can be achieved and sustained. This philosophy is the cornerstone of our approach to leadership development.
